What is Castlebeck?
Castlebeck exists to provide people with the highest quality support to achieve well being and quality of life.
We are a specialist provider of healthcare and support for people with learning disabilities, complex needs and behaviour that challenges services. We also offer specialist support for people with mental health needs; people on the autistic spectrum with and without a learning disability and for people with acquired brain injuries with associated challenging behaviour.
Castlebeck has been established for more than 20 years. We work and stick with people who have the most challenging and complex needs - supporting them to make progress and live as independently as possible.
We have a long history of providing positive outcomes for people who come very usually to our services in a state of distress or disturbance, often after a string of failed placements.
We do not offer magic cures, but we do offer commitment to the person and an intention to free that person from the issues that most limit their independence and freedom when they first come to us - which are (often un or incompletely assessed) complex needs and challenging behaviour.
By engaging with people, respecting them and relating to them positively, particularly through periods of high challenge, a firm foundation of attachment and relatedness is developed, which has often been missing the the lives of those who are referred to us for many years: and quite often since childhood.
This committment to developing trusting relationships in a calm and confident way forms the basis for people progressing positively in our services and for the sustainable outcomes we often produce. It is our belief that empowering people to take greater control over their lives, as far as this is possible, is the best way to support people with enduring need.
It is to be remembered that the people who come to our services do not represent the mainstream of people with a learning disability, nor mental health problems, but a group of people with particularly complex needs, presenting with greater levels of challenge.
This is a group of people for whom short term answers have often failed in the past and for whom, for real progress to be made, a firm foundation needs to be at last put into place.
