Where we Are - North East

Thornfield Grange

Thornfield Grange is an independent hospital providing community based rehabilitation. The unit provides specialist support for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in a fun, friendly and homely environment.

Its place in the Bishop Auckland community allows patients to access the town’s facilities which include shops, leisure facilities, a college and much more as a key part of their rehabilitation and treatment plan.

A number of patients at Thornfield, for example, are involved in a programme of regeneration at the Maidendale Fishing and Nature Reserve – a joint project between Castlebeck and Darlington Borough Council. Patients visit the site weekly to do conservation work.

Thornfield Grange has 12 bedrooms and is staffed by a caring and committed team which includes specialist nurses who are qualified and trained to work with people with learning disabilities who provide 24-hour care.

Each patient has their own person-centred plan and an individualised care programme – all in a safe and supportive environment
