Hollyhurst

Allowing people to live their own life to their optimum potential is the aim of Hollyhurst in Darlington where 28 patients are supported by a team of specialist nurses and support workers.

Registered for people over the age of 18, including those detained under the Mental Health Act, Hollyhurst, an independent hospital specialising in support for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, is in the centre of a vibrant community.

Rooms are personalised and homely, while patients can enjoy the large gardens that surround Hollyhurst, which is one of Castlebeck’s acute services, specialising in assessment and intervention.

Patients are encouraged to take part in many activities using the ‘24.7’ system. The ‘24.7’ system enables people to structure their time; build relationships and establish a balance between work, self care and leisure. Individual plans are developed with each patient and includes structured evening and weekend activity as well as less structured time.

Active work takes place within these programmes to enhance local contacts and a sense of belonging in the community. Where possible and appropriate, local community services are used for activities to support the development and independence of those in our facilities.
